Blogger arrestato, l’UAAR scrive al governo palestinese

In merito all’arresto del blogger Waleed Khalid Hasayin (cfr.

Mr. President,
I’m writing to You in my capacity as secretary of UAAR (Union of Rationalist Atheists and Agnostics), the association representing non-believers in Italy, asking for the reasons that justify the incarceration of Waleed Khalid Hasayin, who has now been held in prison for more than one month. According to the press, his only ‘crime’ was to criticize Islam on his blog, and for this he is risking nothing short of life imprisonment.
Such a punishment violates patently the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in which freedom of expression, freedom of religion, and freedom of not having any religion are guaranteed. We are troubled by the realization that the Authority that You represent does not safeguard these rights. We would furthermore respectfully submit to Your consideration that the image of Palestine in Europe will of necessity suffer from this incident.
For these reasons we appeal to You asking for the immediate release of the young blogger, held captive for no good reason, and urging You to do whatever is in your power in order to protect his life.

Raffaele Carcano, Secretary of UAAR
